5 Suppress Appetite Secrets

Posted on January 6th, 2009 by somnath chougule in Diet Logs

Do you need to find ways to suppress appetite and want to do it properly without diet pills? The key in all this is realizing there’s nothing wrong with experiencing hunger from time to time. It’s a normal human response to decrease in your consumption of calories. When you feel hungry you feel it’s some sort of emergency, in fact the body is just signaling that it doesn’t have enough calories to add new fat to the fat stores it’s already carrying around. I don’t want to suggest that you must starve, but just neglect for a short time.

There are several life saving foods and beverages you can turn to suppress appetite, just avoid to consume foods that add significant calories to your daily intake. In my own experience I lost few pounds of body fat using absolutely no drugs or pharmaceuticals of any kind- why can’t you do so? The secret is just fooling your body! Ok, just bear, I’ll explain shortly.

Trick# 1:

To suppress appetite drink plenty of water. That’s right, if you just drink a full glass of water and have the discipline to wait 10 minutes, you will find that your appetite is either completely gone or dramatically reduced. If you’re not happy with drinking water, you can take a few (no more than 10) raw peanuts, and eat each one slowly, downing it with a few sips of hot coffee, you will have added only 30 calories to your diet, but you will see your hunger pains completely disappear for more than 3 hours. It works every time. You can also choose natural, organic vegetable soup or organic chicken soup if you prefer the flavor of chicken. You can feel full on 20 calories by drinking an entire quart of organic vegetable or chicken soup. Water does help to fill one’s stomach up and it is great for our skin, as well.

Trick# 2:

The next best trick to suppress appetite is to turn to green vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, bokchoy, and other leafy vegetables. You can allow yourself to eat an unlimited quantity of any green leafy vegetables without even recording the number of calories. And yet at the same time, they fill your stomach and make you feel full, turning off the hunger signals in your brain. If you don’t like to eat them plain, you can consume it with lettuce and salad greens. Remember the calories for the green leafy vegetables are free. You only count the calories of the salad dressing itself. You can also stir fry them in a pan with no oils with just water and flavoring such as onions, garlic and soy sauce. Simply stir fry all the green vegetables you want, add the spices and eat it.

Trick# 3:

If you are hungry you must eat a fruit or something that will not add calories and fats to your diet. Eat the largest apple you can find. Sure, you’ll get some calories and some carbohydrates, but the apple will fill you up for quite a while, and that will stop you from eating far more calorie-dense foods. Apples are great to suppress appetite because the bulky fiber fills up your stomach and turns off your appetite control hormones before you overeat. Plus, apples contain various phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals and even a decent source of folic acid. You can even try oranges, watermelon, grapes along with apples.

Trick# 4

A lack of enough sleep causes an imbalance of some hormones which include ghrelin and leptin. Ghrelin is a hormone that increases appetite. Leptin is a hormone that decreases appetite. When we get less than optimal sleep our levels of ghrelin go up and levels of leptin decreases. Adults should try and get at least eight hours of sleep each and every night.

Trick# 5:

Another food to suppress appetite is pickles, not the pickles you find at a regular grocery store. The pickles you find in grocery stores contain food coloring, instead you must buy completely natural pickles that are made without artificial colors or flavors and that have an extremely low calorie count as well. Just don’t buy pickles containing any added sugars or artificial colors. By the way, while you’re eating pickles, it’s an excellent time to take some calcium and mineral supplements and the acidity of the pickles will accelerate the absorption of calcium.

Overall, keep in mind that weight loss takes effort. You will experience moments of intense hunger, and these low-calorie, filling foods are one excellent way to suppress appetite through a difficult time without packing on the pounds. These are some foods, which eaten in combination will naturally suppress your appetite. The above given tricks are so easy, and work so well, that you will wonder why everyone does not know it.
